Brick Farm Cooking School is a community environment where culinary education and responsible sourcing come together. We offer interactive classes for cooks of all skill levels to hone their techniques and to learn our tips on how to source the best products from trusted local farmers.

About Alex Van Dyke

Born and raised in rural Bucks County Pennsylvania, Alex’s love of food was cultivated at an early age. Nostalgic memories and countless family gatherings almost always began with a single centric question: “What are we eating?”

This fundamental starting point led him on a path to working with the some of the most heralded of chefs in world-renowned kitchens.

Moving on to develop restaurant concepts and lead culinary teams of his own, Alex’s passion has further shifted to share lessons and experiences garnered throughout his career with his hometown community and special guests.

Masks are also required during the cooking portion of our classes, but naturally – at the end of a class when you get to enjoy your food and beverage (BYO) – masks may be removed. Former Gourmet Magazine Food Editor and cookbook author Shelley Wiseman teaches this class where she will cover many knife cutting techniques, starting with honing them with a steel. You will concentrate primarily on chef knives and paring knives for the cutting techniques covered.

Are attendees required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19?

Yes, we require all attendees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 per the latest available CDC guidelines.

 

Are attendees required to wear a face mask?

No.

 

What other COVID-19 safety measures are in place?

At the Brick Farm Cooking School we are enforcing enhanced safety measures including – but not limited to – making sure each prep station has virus-killing sanitizer at the ready.

Furthermore, the entire Brick Farm Cooking School facility – all tables, chairs, doors, counters, equipment, etc. – are sanitized at the end of each class.

PLEASE NOTE: This situation is fluid and things can change at a moment’s notice, so please check back here on this web page for the most up-to-date information.

 

What do I need to bring?

Everything is supplied to you; equipment, food supplies, etc., except drinks.

 

Will we be eating the food we cooked in class?

Yes! We agree that eating together as a group is just as significant as time spent cooking. Guest are welcome to open any beverages brought along and enjoy an intimate experience filled with thoughtful discussions and delicious works of art.

Can I have a private group of just people I know?

Yes, most certainly! We offer customized classes for corporate events, celebrations and all sorts of get-togethers! Please send us an email at CookingSchool@BrickFarmGroup.com or call (908) 520-6137 for more information.

 

Can children participate in cooking classes?

Kids can cook too! We recommend keeping an eye out for classes specifically geared towards children, but we believe in the importance for education at an early age.

We ask you use your judgement if your child would be ready for a class and follow recommended precautions during class operations.

 

What if I’m sick?

If you or your guests are not feeling well, please stay home! We ask you give us at least 24 hours notice to make adjustments where you will be invited to replace your booking with any future available spots within our class offerings.
